BioTrack LIMS — device mockup
The technician app: scan a tube, open a sample and release a report without finding a desk.

Overview

BioTrack LIMS is a laboratory information management system for diagnostic labs that still run on spreadsheets, paper requisition slips and status updates over the phone. The brief was to build a single screen that answers the three questions a lab manager asks all day: what is in the queue, what is late, and what is ready to release.

We designed the Overview dashboard around live lab efficiency, sample volume and turnaround-time compliance, then carried the same visual language into a companion mobile app so technicians can scan tubes and log results away from a workstation.

The challenge

Lab staff do not sit in front of a monitor. Samples are logged at a bench, tests are run in another room, and results get chased by phone, so status is always a guess. The interface had to survive gloved hands, small screens and constant interruption while still holding up to HIPAA and ISO expectations about who touched a record and when.

What we built

  • Overview dashboard with live lab efficiency, samples processed and turnaround-time compliance
  • Sample lifecycle tracking with tube scanning, from intake through to release
  • Test catalogue with category filters, search and batch scheduling
  • Patient result cards showing reference ranges, status flags and linked reports
  • Automated report generation with an explicit review-and-release step
  • Role-based access and a full audit trail on every record
  • Technician mobile app: scan tube, new sample, track samples and my tests
